FRUITVALE SCHOOL NEW CLASSROOM BLOCK, ACCESSWAY & CARPARK
Fruitvale School New Classroom Block, Accessway & Carpark
Description of work:
Construction of a new two-level, eight-classroom block.
Demolition of two classroom blocks plus civil and enabling works.
Construction of a new driveway and carpark, giving the school a new main entrance off Fruitvale Road.
Removal of a traffic island and judder bar on Fruitvale Road to allow accessway works to be carried out.
Civil Works creating a concrete hardstand area around the front of the new classroom block and landscaping to the rear to complete the project.
An open plan, ILE (Innovative Learning Environment) classroom block with four teaching spaces on each level, plus associated breakout spaces and quiet rooms, which are separated off from the open space by Focus’ aluminium partitioning systems.
Children have various other areas to learn and interact, such as reading nooks, areas for high and low tables, mat time areas and outdoor learning spaces.
The design includes ‘green’ elements such as a rainwater retention tank (so that stormwater can be used for the bathrooms) and solar panels, making it a truly contemporary space.
Additionally, the modern facility includes unisex toilets and wheelchair accessible elements including a lift.
